Giving Back: Freedom and Glory Volunteers to Help 99-Year-Old Veteran Dorma Holt for Veterans Day

This Veterans Day, Freedom and Glory had the privilege of serving a true American hero. 99-year-old veteran Dorma Holt, drafted into the U.S. Army in 1944, bravely served during the final stretch of WWII. Last Friday, our team gathered at his home in Burlington, NC, to help refresh his home’s exterior and replace his flag and flagpole. The day involved hard work—from painting porches and raking leaves to other home improvement tasks—all as a gesture of gratitude for Mr. Holt’s service and sacrifices.

The Beacon® Scholarship for Rural America, which Freedom and Glory introduced in 2018, had another great group of applicants to choose from for the Fall 2021 scholarship. We received applications from 15 out of the 50 U.S. states including: Arizona, California, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Texas.

Emma Kitchin, of Newland, N.C., is the recipient of the Spring 2021 Beacon® Scholarship for Rural America, a scholarship that was introduced by Freedom and Glory in 2018. We received applications from states across the country, including New Jersey, Tennessee, Michigan, Arizona and California. Kitchin is a shining example of community patriotism that continues to thrive in rural towns today.

The History Of Wreaths Across America Day

Each year on either the second or the third Saturday of December, hundreds of volunteers and businesses partner to place wreaths on veterans’ graves throughout the nation. Known as “Wreaths Across America Day,” this year’s event will be held on December 19th at 2,400 cemeteries. It has become an annual tradition of remembering our nation's fallen heroes during the holiday season.

MS Research Donation By Freedom and Glory Makes A Positive Impact

Freedom and Glory Industries’ continued success has allowed it to give back to the MS community through their annual donations to fund MS research. Freedom and Glory’s latest donation of $70,000 to the National MS Society will help improve the lives of those living with MS. Dwight and Lynne Morris launched Freedom and Glory out of their Oak Park, IL, home in 1980, six years after Lynne was diagnosed with MS. The Morris family worked hard to provide flags and patriotic products to communities across America, and in 1987, Freedom and Glory and the Morris family relocated to Hillsborough, NC.
