Details

The San Francisco flag is a vivid symbol of the city's history and its will to survive. The San Francisco City flag depicts a phoenix rising from the ashes on a white field. Many assume the phoenix recognizes the city's triumph after the disastrous earthquake and fire of 1906; however, the flag predates the disaster and honors the spirit of San Franciscans after the fire of 1852 which destroyed the (mostly) wooden city.
