Details

The Columbus City Flag honorably pays tribute to the city's namesake and Columbus' role as capital of the state of Ohio. The Columbus City flag displays a tricolor banner featuring the Spanish colors of Red, yellow and white. (Columbus sailed under the patronage of Queen Isabella of Spain.) The flag also displays the Columbus City Seal. The Seal pictures Columbus' ship the Santa Maria. A semi-circle of seventeen stars denotes Ohio's place as the seventeenth state to join the union. Buckeye leaves complete the circle of stars. The buckeye is an official Ohio state symbol. An eagle lifts the shield and supports the Ohio statehouse and an American flag. Designed and built to be the capital, Columbus was founded in 1812 and named for explorer Christopher Columbus. Columbus has been called “the biggest small town in America" as it boasts a robust and diverse economy.
