While our aluminum poles do not rust like steel, they can still corrode and show pitting along the surface. We offer anodized finishes to protect your pole against corrosion. The clear, black, and bronze anodized finishes are electrically bonded to the surface of the metal. The pole is then covered with a sealant that offers lasting protection against corrosion.

Any flag you fly on an anodized flagpole will last longer since the special flagpole finish will prevent the flag from being stained or damaged by snags on a rough, corroded flagpole surface. Note that all anodized finishes have a five-year warranty against fading.

Are you looking for a more affordable flagpole? Our residential flagpoles are great for single-family homes. We carry a variety of sizes and finishes. Our 20-foot sectional flagpole is less expensive to ship and can be easily installed in your front yard or business. 

The size of your flagpole will depend on the height of your building. Our 20-foot commercial flagpoles work well for most single-story buildings. Two-story buildings may choose between the 20 or 25-foot Majestic™ Commercial Aluminum Flagpole. Any building larger than two stories should install a 25-foot flagpole or more. 

At a minimum, the length of your flag should be at least one-quarter the height of your flagpole. That means that a 3’x5’ foot flag is the minimum flag size you should flag on this type of flagpole. You can also fly flags that are up to 4’x6’. Our Patriarch® polyester and Beacon® nylon US flags come in those sizes and many others.

Flying too many flags on your flagpole risks damaging it. For a 20 ft flagpole, the total square footage of your flags should not exceed 24 feet. That means that if you plan to fly multiple flags, flying a 3’x’5’ paired with a 2’x3’ flag is best practice. If you plan to pair another flag (such as a US state flag or military flag) with an American flag, the American flag should always fly on top and be a size larger.

Aluminum flagpoles require minimal maintenance, but regular upkeep is still necessary to keep them in good condition. Here are some maintenance tips for a 20-foot aluminum flagpole:
 

  • Clean the flagpole regularly: Use a mild detergent and a soft-bristled brush to clean the surface of the flagpole. Rinse it thoroughly with clean water and dry it with a soft cloth. 
  • Lubricate the pulley system: Apply a small amount of lubricant to the pulley system to keep it operating smoothly. Be sure to use a lubricant that is safe for use on aluminum surfaces. 
  • Replace the halyard rope: check your halyard rope regularly for signs of wear or damage. Replace any ropes that are frayed or knotted immediately.
