Imagine holding an heirloom that told time as America was marching into the 20th century. A hundred-year-old pocket watch that was by someone’s side as America fought through its darkest hours.

Lindsay’s Roselle’s company, Vortic Watches, lets you own a piece of history. Fully made in America, their watches are a combination of reclaimed vintage and modern parts, each with their own story to tell.

In this week’s Freedom & Glory Podcast, we meet Lindsay Roselle, Vortic’s interim CEO, who took over for husband after tragedy struck her family. Her story—and the company’s—remind us that courage and resilience can rebuild what’s been broken into something new.

Stepping Into Leadership After Crisis

Can you imagine how scary it would be to start from scratch after you turned 30? Thankfully, for Lindsay, being a leader always came naturally and she wasn’t afraid to put in the hard work. After nine years in the corporate business world, she set off on her own. During this time, she started numerous businesses, from an e-commerce brand to a brick-and-mortar shop and professional speaking.    With an MBA and traditional corporate background plus 15 years of managing different types of businesses, it seemed like Lindsay was prepared for anything—until she received a call that would change her life.   On June 30th, Lindsay saw a cryptic message on her phone. When she called the number, it was the hospital telling her that her husband had just suffered a stroke. While he survived, the road to recovery would be long and hard. In that moment, Lindsay had to decide: would she shrink under fear or rise up and embrace the challenge? She knew what she had to do. Even though it would take hard work, Vortic was a one-of-a-kind company, and she couldn't let it fail.

Vortic's Unique Approach to Restoring Antique Watches

RT, Lindsay's husband, came up with the idea for the company after learning that watches were once made in America, before being shipped overseas. There were buckets of antique timepieces at estate sales and salvage yards just waiting for someone to rediscover their worth. RT knew he could give them a new life. All it would take was salvaging old watch parts that were over a hundred years old and hiring watchmakers to restore them. It was innovation at its finest. Vortic gave people the opportunity to turn heritage pieces into working watches, bringing history back to life. That was RT's passion and why Vortic is so successful.

Lindsay recounts, "The history and the story of all of it is really what he loved the most from the beginning, and then what has made the business have longevity."

Carrying Tradition Forward: The Future of Vortic Watches

The beauty of a Vortic Watch is that everything on the outside is new, but on the inside, it's over a hundred years old. But, as with any American dream, there's challenges the company must figure out.   With its recent launch of a new brand, Colorado Watch Company, Vortic Watch is growing. Unlike Vortic Watch, Colorado Watch Company makes modern watches. Unfortunately, since there's no one in America who can manufacture watch movements, some of the watch parts are made overseas. That’s been a challenge when trying to reach customers who prefer 100% American-made products. But bringing the industry back to the U.S.A. would require enormous time, money, and effort—more than a small business like Vortic Watch can do on its own.    "I do hope that we can be advocates in our own little industry here for educating and helping people understand that it takes a massive investment to pull back to America." Lindsay said. But Lindsay is determined to keep her and her husband's dream of making American-made watches alive. No matter how long it takes, she believes that one day the watch industry will again be a part of America's legacy with quality products crafted right here in the U.S.A.
