Our founders built the United States on the spirit of resiliency and self-reliance. Since its beginning, brave men and women have fought against forces of tyranny, exemplifying bravery and determination. Every year, we celebrate our country’s freedom, but July 4th, 2026, honors an extra momentous occasion: America’s semiquincentennial. America 250 is a once-in-a-generation celebration that commemorates the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding.
The signing of the Declaration of Independence was an act that changed the world. It showed what could happen when everyday people have the courage to stand up to tyranny and disrupt the status quo.
American history is full of stories of those who made a personal impact. America 250 gives us the opportunity to not only celebrate the founding of the United States but to honor the brave American heroes throughout history who made it the country it is today.
Celebrate America 250 with stunning patriotic flags from Freedom and Glory. Explore our selection of ensigns representing America's evolution from the Revolutionary War to the present day. We will help you create an unforgettable display that is sure to inspire those in your community and beyond.
The American colonies were originally under the rule of Great Britain, but by the late 1700s, tensions were rising. Oppressive taxation was crippling the colonists, and many had had enough. They were starting to fight back. Groups of revolutionaries were taking a stand, planning events like the Boston Tea Party in Massachusetts to let England know they were ready to fight back.
By 1775, the American Revolution had begun, with skirmishes like the Battle of Bunker Hill helping garner support from once unsure colonists. The concept of American independence gained steam and soon led to action.
On June 7, 1776, the Continental Congress convened in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to draft a statement on why the colonies should break from Britain. On July 2, the resolution for independence was voted on, and on July 4, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was officially adopted. At the time, the revolutionaries behind the Declaration of Independence didn’t know what the future held; they just knew that in order for America to be a great nation, they had to take a stand.
It would take hard work, but the possibility of creating a legacy where everyone, regardless of where they started, had the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness was worth the risk. That American spirit is what defines the country to this day and why the America 250 celebration is so impactful.
We get to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary today because our founding fathers and the brave Americans who fought beside them were willing to pay the price to create a free and prosperous nation.
Celebrating America 250 in Your Community
America 250 is an nationwide initative led by the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission to build excitement and engagement around America’s 250th birthday celebration. In 2016, Congress created the nonpartisan U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission to work with non-profit organizations across the country. Their goal was to design the largest anniversary observance in the country’s history and honor this momentous milestone. As part of the celebration, America 250 will host several events at the White House, with President Trump and Vice President Vance participating.
While the celebrations at the capital are sure to be incredible, you can find events nearby at your local America 250 branch. Each branch usually has different ways to engage, and you can follow their social media pages for updates.
