On a pole with another flag
When the American flag is on the same pole as an organization, state, or city flag, the U.S. flag is always at the top of the pole, in a position of honor.
At half-staff or half-mast
"Half-staff" is half the distance from the top to the bottom of a flagpole. If flying a single flag, the center-point of the U.S. flag should be aligned with the center-point of the flagpole. For more information on flying your flag at half-mast, visit our page on Flag Holidays .
How this started
Back in 1980, Dwight Morris had a steady job. And he gave it up. He started selling flags from his attic in Chicago. He wanted to build something that mattered, something he could be proud of, something that was his. And he believed it was worth the risk.
Years later, his daughter Liz learned something playing field hockey at UNC. She wasn't the star player. Not the fastest, not the top scorer. One day her coach pulled her aside with a bucket of water and dropped in a single drop of blue dye. The whole bucket changed color. “That's you,” her coach said. “That's what one person can do.”
Dwight in his attic in 1980. Liz on that field years later. Two different moments, same belief. One person taking a chance, showing up, doing work that matters. That's how you change things.
Forty-five years later, Liz runs the company. The business grew. The name changed. But the belief that drove Dwight to take that risk is still here, still driving everything we do.
